For decades, Europe prospered in a globalized world, characterized by free trade, geopolitical stability and low defense spending. However, the energy shock triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the loss of market share to China in key sectors of European exports, and signs that the U.S. may reduce its military support on the continent have been demanding structural changes from European nations.
In this article, we will analyze which measures are being adopted and studied to combat the stagnation scenario and how the creation of a European bond market could even make the European currency rival the dollar in the future.
